MEET DR. TAYLOR LARSEN, PSYD, LPC, NCC
Dr. Taylor Larsen founded Awakening Mental Health after noticing the financial issues related to access to care for those seeking counseling services. Awakening Mental Health was also created to educate the public to combat the stigma associated with mental health.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Taylor provides individual psychotherapy to adults (ages 18+) experiencing various mental health difficulties. She also provides couples counseling to meet the needs of those experiencing distress or wanting to better the quality of their relationships by implementing the Gottman Method.
Dr. Larsen specializes in trauma, PTSD, complex PTSD, eating disorders, adjustment disorders, and developmental trauma. She is an Evergreen Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Level II- Complex Trauma (CCTP-II) therapist. She is a certified Trauma Shame-Informed Treatment Specialist (CSTS) and Clinical Trauma Specialist- for Individuals (CCTSI) through the Trauma Institute International.
Dr. Larsen is proficient in delivering psychological services with teletherapy to meet the needs of her clients best.
Dr. Larsen earned her Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) from the University of Arizona Global Campus. Her degree focuses on Sport and Performance Psychology. Her dissertation focused on eating disorder prevention within the elite female athlete population. She received her Masters in Counseling (MSC) from the University of Phoenix and her Bachelors from Arizona State University. Dr. Larsen's experience as a former collegiate and national-level rugby player and her unique combination of studies ignited her passion for promoting mental health and well-being for athletes.
Dr. Larsen is involved in several organizations. She is a part of Inclusive Therapists’ community providers and provides inclusive services for the LGBTQIA and BIPOC populations. She works to eliminate bias and mistreatment through her involvement in the Society for Sexual, Affectional, Intersex, and Gender Expansive Identities (SAIGE). She is an Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) member. She provides sport and performance consultation and other services to assist athletes, organizations, and companies in performing to the best of their abilities.
She is involved in the Green Cross Academy of Traumatology and holds diplomate status for the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. This involvement assists her in practicing the highest quality and best practices for those struggling with trauma-related symptoms.
Dr. Taylor Larsen provides tailored treatment to fit the needs of each of her clients. She strives to create a safe and empowering environment for her clients, and she believes a good fit between therapist and client is an integral component of healing. She utilizes a warm, compassionate, and sensitive approach to help clients from many backgrounds achieve their goals collaboratively.
Dr. Larsen has extensive training in providing multiple modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for -Eating Disorders, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Compassionate Inquiry (CI), Internal Family Systems/Parts work (IFS), Trauma Informed Therapy, and mindfulness.
Taylor is also an active member of Collectively Rooted, allowing her to collaborate with and represent like-minded people passionate about making a meaningful impact in the community. Dr. Larsen was born in Texas and raised in Arizona. She continues to give back to her community by providing services in both states.
